Meta AI Revolution: New Tools And Top Talent From OpenAI

WhatsApp has started rolling out the new feature to generally help users manage unread chats more easily. This information is confirmed by the official blog account of WhatsApp. As per the blog post, the update leverages Meta AI to generate short summaries of unread messages, allowing users to understand conversations at a glance without opening each message.

The feature runs on Meta’s Private Processing technology, which ensures that summaries are generated entirely on the user’s device. Neither WhatsApp nor Meta can access the messages or the AI-generated summaries. The process remains private, with no indication within chats that the feature was used.

Message Summaries is turned off by default and can be enabled manually. Users can manage which chats are summarised through the Advanced Chat Privacy settings, offering control over where AI tools are applied.

The rollout begins with English-language support for users in the United States, with wider availability expected later this year. The feature adds to Meta’s growing focus on integrating AI into its platforms.

Meta’s New AI Tools for Ads

At a big advertising event in 2024, Meta (the company that owns Facebook and Instagram) showed off some cool new AI tools. These tools help businesses make better ads and earn more money.

How Meta’s AI is Already Helping

Meta’s AI tools are working really well. When businesses use Meta’s smart ad system called “Advantage+”, they make 22% more money from their ads. Another AI tool helps get 5% more people to buy things.

New AI Features for Making Ads

Making Videos from Pictures This new tool takes several photos and turns them into a video automatically. It can add text and music too. This helps businesses make more interesting video ads without hiring expensive video makers.

Video Highlights This tool finds the most important parts of a video ad. When people watch the ad, they can jump straight to the good parts instead of watching the whole thing. The AI picks out key moments that show the product or brand.

Brand Consistency Tools For the first time, businesses can use AI to make sure all their ads look the same. The AI can automatically use the right colors, fonts, logos, and style across all ads. It can even translate ads into different languages while keeping the brand looking consistent.

Making Ads More Fun and Interactive

Custom Stickers Meta is testing special stickers that go on the “Shop Now” or “Learn More” buttons in ads. These stickers can show products or slogans to make people more likely to click on them.

Virtual Try-On This feature lets people see how clothes would look on different body types using AI. Instead of just seeing clothes on one model, customers can see how items might look on people who are more like them.

Real Success Stories

Avimee Herbal (a beauty company) used Meta’s AI to refresh their old ads. They spent 62% less money and got 1.8 times more sales.

Big Basket (a grocery delivery service) tested the AI catalog ads and was happy with how well they worked.

These new AI tools help businesses make better ads without spending as much time or money. They also help customers have a better experience when they see and interact with ads online.

Apart from the above news, Mark Zuckerberg, the boss of Meta (Facebook’s parent company), has hired three top AI researchers from OpenAI. This news came out on Wednesday in The Wall Street Journal.

Just a few days before this news, Sam Altman (the boss of OpenAI) complained that Meta was trying to steal his workers. Now it looks like Meta actually did succeed in getting some of them.

Who Got Hired?

Meta hired three researchers named:

  • Lucas Beyer
  • Alexander Kolesnikov
  • Xiaohua Zhai

All three of them used to work at OpenAI’s office in Zurich, Switzerland. OpenAI confirmed that these three people left the company, but they wouldn’t say much more about it.

What Will They Work On?

These three will join Zuckerberg’s special team that’s trying to build something called “superintelligence.”

What is Superintelligence?

Think of superintelligence as AI that’s smarter than humans at everything. Right now, we don’t have this yet.

Here’s how AI levels work:

  • Current AI: Good at some specific things (like ChatGPT writing text or recognizing photos)
  • AGI (Artificial General Intelligence): As smart as humans at most things
  • Superintelligence: Smarter than humans at everything

We’re still working toward AGI, and superintelligence would come after that. It’s like the ultimate goal for AI companies – building computer systems that can think better than people can.
